The Experience

The True Aim Retreat is designed for women who already shoot and want more than just range time. It’s an opportunity to step away from the pace of daily life, spend meaningful time outdoors, and deepen both your archery practice and your sense of focus.

Throughout the retreat, participants will refine their shooting skills, practice on both paper and 3D targets, hike and explore the surrounding landscape, and share meaningful time with other capable women. The experience blends skill-building, outdoor connection, and intentional reflection in a supportive environment.

The True Aim Retreat is designed for women who already shoot and are looking for more than just practice at the range. It’s for women who want to deepen their archery skills while also stepping away from the pace of everyday life to spend time outdoors and reconnect with themselves.

This isn’t just about shooting - it’s about learning to trust your focus, your body, and your instincts both on and off the range.

This retreat may be a good fit for you if you are someone who:

  • already owns and shoots a compound bow

  • wants to refine your skills and gain confidence in their shooting

  • enjoys spending time outdoors and being in nature

  • is interested in reflection, journaling, or personal growth

  • appreciates meaningful conversations and connection with other capable women

  • is open to exploring how focus, body awareness, and mindset influence both archery and everyday life

This retreat is designed for women who already have some archery experience and are comfortable operating their own compound bow.

Participants should be able to:

  • safely handle and operate their bow

  • nock an arrow and shoot independently

  • have spent some time practicing at a range or in the field

You do not need to be an advanced shooter or have years of experience. However, this retreat is not designed for individuals who are completely new to archery or have only recently purchased their first bow and have not yet learned the basics.

Facilitators will be available throughout the retreat to help with adjustments to equipment, technique, anchor points, and other aspects of shooting as needed.

This retreat is for women who are interested not only in improving their shooting, but also in exploring how focus, presence, and mindset influence both archery and everyday life.

  • Two nights lodging (tent or cabin) during the retreat

Lodging and Setting

The True Aim Retreat will take place within an hour of the Rapid City area in a setting that supports both time outdoors and meaningful connection.

We are currently finalizing the exact location, which may include either a private lodging space or a more immersive outdoor experience depending on what best supports the overall retreat experience.

Full details will be shared with participants once the location is confirmed.

Regardless of the final setting, the retreat will be designed to ensure a comfortable, supportive, and well-organized experience.

Meet the Facilitators

The True Aim Retreat is guided by women who are passionate about archery, the outdoors, hunting, and creating spaces where other women can grow in confidence, skill, and connection.

Laura Snyder
Founder of HER Retreats
Licensed Professional Counselor - MH, Archer, Huntress

Laura Snyder is a licensed professional counselor and the founder of HER Retreats and HER Outdoors. Her work centers on trauma-informed care, somatic experiences, and supporting women in reconnecting with themselves through intentional experiences and meaningful community. Laura holds a TCTSY-F credential in Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga and integrates body awareness and reflection into many of the experiences she creates.

As someone deeply connected to the outdoors, Laura enjoys hiking, hunting, archery, and spending time outside with her husband, children, and close friends. She created HER Retreats and HER Outdoors to bring women together in spaces where they can build skills, strengthen confidence, and experience the kind of community that forms when women support and encourage one another.



Brianna Wilcox
USA Archery Level 2 Instructor, Archer, Huntress

Brianna “Bri” Wilcox is a lifelong outdoorswoman and passionate hunter who enjoys spending time in the field with both bow and rifle. Having grown up around hunting, Bri developed her skills early and was even trusted by other hunters as a teen to help field dress and debone harvested animals. Today she continues to hunt and spend time outdoors with her husband, child, and close friends.

Bri enjoys helping women build confidence in their shooting and hone their archery skills in a supportive, judgment-free environment. She loves seeing women recognize their progress, refine their technique, and get excited about the improvements they’re making along the way.


Thawney Stottler
Outdoor Skills Facilitator, Archer, Huntress

Thawney Stottler is an avid archer, huntress, and outdoor enthusiast with a passion for practical field skills and lifelong learning. A longtime Wilderness First Responder and self-described amateur GIS enthusiast, she enjoys blending technical knowledge with hands-on outdoor experience. From camping and backcountry travel to archery and wildlife stewardship, Thawney is continually working to refine her skills.

A dedicated 3D archery competitor, she regularly trains to improve her shooting and has earned top placements in competition. Thawney enjoys sharing what she has learned and helping women build confidence both on the range and in the field.

Known for her patient, teaching style, Thawney is especially passionate about creating welcoming spaces where women can grow their outdoor skills, support one another, and feel empowered to pursue new challenges.
